Profile:

Richard G. Larsen is an affiliate distinguished professor in the School of Business. He teaches tax and management courses in undergraduate, MBA and Executive MBA programs. He previously taught as an adjunct professor at the University of Maryland and in the Graduate Tax Program at American University. Prior to joining the faculty at George Mason University, Larsen was a partner in Ernst & Young LLP’s National Tax Department in Washington, D.C., where he focused on tax accounting and risk advisory services, corporate tax matters for aerospace and defense clients, and internal practice management issues. At his retirement, he was the Global Director of Tax Risk Services and served on Ernst & Young’s Global Advisory Executive board. Larsen previously served as the Tax Managing Partner of Ernst & Young’s Washington and Stamford offices and the Regional Director of Tax of the Mid-Atlantic Region. Prior to joining the Ernst & Young, Larsen worked on the personal staffs of three U.S. Senators. He currently serves on the board of directors of Tax Analysts and the Northern Chapter of the Virginia Society of CPAs, the Accounting Advisory Board for BNA, the Internal Revenue Service Advisory Council, finance committee of the Washington National Cathedral and is a frequent lecturer. Larsen received his BBA, with honors, from The George Washington University and his Juris Doctorate, with honors, from The George Washington University Law School. He also attended the Advanced Management Program at the Columbia University School of Business. In 1992 he was awarded George Washington University’s Outstanding Alumnus Award, Beta Alpha Psi honorary society and was awarded the Phillip A. Blanchard Award for excellence in undergraduate teaching by the George Mason University chapter of Beta Alpha Psi,. He is a certified public accountant licensed in the state of Virginia and is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the American Accounting Association, the American and Virginia Bar Associations and, the National Association of Corporate Directors.
