As former Executive MBA classmates, Mark Cummings and Sumeet Shrivastava, both members of the program’s 1994 graduating class, not only maintain their longstanding friendship with each other, but also remain active as School of Management alumni. Cummings is president-elect of the School of Management Alumni Chapter Board of Directors, while Shrivastava serves on the Innovation & Entrepreneurship Advisory Board.
In 2013, after Cummings and Shrivastava were honored as members of the inaugural class of 20 Prominent Patriots at the 8th Annual Business Alumni Celebration, the two saw an opportunity to take their involvement with the School of Management to the next level by rallying the newly formed 20 Prominent Patriots group to action around their shared passion for Mason.
On March 28, 2014, the two hosted the group at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. to cheer on the Washington Wizards as they battled the Indiana Pacers. In addition to the Wizards winning by a 13-point margin over the Pacers, the evening resulted in the strengthening of existing relationships and the creation of new friendships around a common goal—supporting the growth of the School of Management behind newly named dean, Sarah Nutter.
Today, as Cummings gears up to take the reins as president of the School of Management Alumni Chapter and Shrivastava works with his fellow board members and Mason faculty to deliver the best experience possible for the first cohort of budding entrepreneurs set to occupy the Mason Innovation Lab over the summer months, the two are hopeful the 20 Prominent Patriots, new and old, will come together to make their mark on the School of Management and its continued success.
