MKTG 481 001: RS Marketing in the Nonprofit Sector
Meets Monday evenings, 7:20pm-10:00pm
Marketing in the Nonprofit Sector, MKTG 481 RS, is being offered in the Fall this Academic Year and is not planned to be offered in spring 2019. Though enrollment in the course is limited to twenty students, there are a few openings left.
The course offers students the chance to work with a real client on a marketing issue of concern to a nonprofit organization. The students work in teams on the project and present their finding directly to the client at the end of the semester. Recent projects have included Northern Virginia Family Service, Islamic Relief USA, the Great Performances Series at the Center for the Fine Arts, the Animal Welfare League of Arlington, and the American Red Cross.
The course offers students special opportunities. It is designated a Research and Scholarship Intensive class. There are some independent studies that are also RS designated, but this is the only classroom experience like this. This is a designation that appears on the student’s transcript.
The course-work provides the support for this marketing, consulting-type opportunity. A wide variety of nonprofit marketing issues are covered, as well as basic consulting skills and basic applied research.
To take the course, you MUST have successfully completed MKTG 301/303. It is helpful but not necessary to have taken—or be taking—Marketing Research.
