Role Model Fridays Provide Career Insight and Camaraderie for MS in Real Estate Students
Now more than year old, the Mason MS in Real Estate Development’s Role Model Fridays are highly-anticipated and well-attended monthly events.
At the most recent gathering on the first Friday in February, attendees met with Carolyn Lewis of Grant/Morgan Associates, a national head-hunting firm with a strong local presence. As a senior staff member, Lewis runs all real estate searches for the DC region. One of her most recent assignments was to staff the Real Estate Division of The Carlyle Group, a multi-billion dollar private equity firm headquartered in the District.
“If you want an up-to-the-minute evaluation of the job market in real estate, you need to find a head hunter who specializes in DC job searches. That’s Carolyn,” said program director Bob Wulff.
Lewis shared details about the current job picture for entry level real estate professionals and offered reality based projections on salary levels. She also provided insider insights into how local employers use Linkedin to find new employees, with valuable tips on maximizing the effectiveness of an on-line profile.
As usual, with the cozy setting of the American Tap Room in Clarendon and ample food and drink provided through the generosity of the Center for Real Estate Entrepreneurship, students enjoyed not only a unique learning opportunity but the camaraderie of their fellow students, faculty and CREE board mentors.
“This monthly event is one of the most entertaining and educational benefits provided by the program,” says Wulff. “No wonder it is popular!”
