Meet Real Estate Development Professor Mark Hassinger
The dedicated faculty in George Mason’s Masters in Real Estate Development program work hard to prepare students for the real world. Their academic expertise combined with real-world real estate development experience provides a bridge in the classroom from academic theory to business practice.
Adjunct professor Mark Hassinger has been teaching in the real estate development masters program since it was launched in 2009. He was instrumental in the launch of the program at George Mason University.
With more than 30 years of real estate development and management experience, Hassinger joined WestDulles Properties as senior vice president in late 2004 and was appointed president in 2006. He has been the moderator for numerous Urban Land Institute real estate workshops and seminars and has also been a member of the practitioner faculty of The Johns Hopkins University Master of Science in Real Estate program. Hassinger is currently Chairman of NAIOP Northern Virginia.
We asked Hassinger a few questions about the MS in Real Estate Development program at George Mason, and here is what he had to say:
What’s the best thing about teaching at Mason? Being around all of the great young people who are so committed to advancing their careers by working toward their Masters in Real Estate Development.
What’s your most memorable teaching moment in the program? Having the program in 2013 invited to participate in the NAIOP Maryland/DC (Commercial Real Estate Development Association) sponsored Intercollegiate Real Estate Case Competition and winning three out of the first four competitions.
If you could describe Mason’s real estate development program in one word, what would it be? Dynamic
Why is Mason one of the best MS in Real Estate Development programs around? Because it is an interdisciplinary program that is deeply seated in the Northern Virginia real estate industry and has tremendous support from the Industry through the Center For Real Estate Entrepreneurship and its Advisory Board.
Anything else you’d like to add? We are a relatively new real estate development graduate program and while we continue to grow, we have already established a solid reputation within the region and have alumni and current students working for many of the best real estate firms in the area.
