BUS 492/ACCT 492 - Internship for Credit Course

BUS 492/ACCT 492 Internship Course is a three-credit General School of Business Elective course designed to give students the opportunity to gain practical, professional experience in conjunction with their academic development. The internship must be completed within same academic semester to receive course credit. 

Requirements:

Note: All requirements must be met prior to enrolling in the course.

BUS 492

1. Must have Bachelor of Science status in the School of Business 
2. Completed 75 hours of course credit
3. Cumulative GPA of a 2.8 or higher
4. Must earn a B- or higher in all 301 or 303 level courses
5. Secure an internship prior to applying that allows you to complete a minimum of 150 hours throughout the semester
6. Student must complete all required application documents
7. Employer must sign the Experiential Learning Agreement
 ACCT 492

1. Must have Bachelor of Science status in the School of Business and be an Accounting major or be enrolled in the Accounting Certificate Program
2. Completed 75 hours of course credit
3. Cumulative GPA of a 2.8 or higher
4. Must have earned a C or higher in ACCT 301 or ACCT 330
5. Secure an internship prior to applying that allow you to complete a minimum of 150 hours throughout the semester
6. Student must complete all required application documents
7. Employer must sign the Experiential Learning Agreement


How to Apply:

  1. Student finds an internship that agrees to provide internship for credit
  2. Required documents to complete and submit:
  3. Return all completed forms to School of Business Career Services in Enterprise Hall, Room 038.
  4. Once your documents have been provisionally approved they will be turned over to the Faculty Instructor for final approval.
  5. Once the Faculty Instructor has all of your paperwork you will receive an "override permission" email with the CRN number to register for BUS 492/ACCT 492 on PatriotWeb.

Deadlines to Apply:

Spring 2018       Friday, January 26 at 2 p.m.
Summer 2018    Friday, May 25 at 2 p.m.
Fall 2018           Friday, August 31 at 2 p.m.

How the Class Works:

  • There is no in-class time though you will be communicating with your instructor regularly.
  • One career-related research paper/project is required. Topic is determined between student and professor based on type of work student is performing and industry information.
  • Students are required to submit weekly journal entries.
  • Mid-term and end-of-semester evaluations will be required by employer and student. Evaluations will be provided by professor.
  • Internship Timeline: Students must be able to complete the internship during the semester they are enrolled. For summer internships the course starts in A session and ends in C session.
  • NOTE: This is a course for academic credit, you will be charged tuition for enrolling in this course. As an academic course, students will need to submit all assignments to be successful. Students will receive a letter grade for the course that will show up on their transcript. Also, you cannot take both BUS 492 and ACCT 492.
