Internship for Academic Credit
The internship for credit course is a three-credit School of Business major elective course designed to give students the opportunity to gain practical, professional experience in conjunction with their academic development. The internship must be completed within same academic semester to receive course credit.
Students cannot register until they receive departmental approval from Career Services.
- Must have Bachelor of Science status in School of Business
- Completed 75 hours of course credit
- Cumulative GPA of a 2.8 or higher
- Student must complete a minimum of 150 hours at their internship site to receive three credits
- Student must complete internship application
- Employer must sign the experiential learning agreement
- ACCT 492
Must earn a B- or higher in the 301 or 330 in the major
- BUS 492, FNAN 492, MGMT 492, MIS 492 or OM 492
Must earn a B- or higher in the 301 or 303 in the major
- MKTG 492
Must earn a C or higher in the 301 or 303 in the major

- Before You Submit Your Application
Please review the requirements to participate.
Career Services highly suggests, before you submit your application, communicate with your site supervisor you are submitting an Internship for Academic Credit course application for your internship to avoid delays.
If the online form is not accessible for you, please retrieve a paper form at the Office of Career Services, located at Enterprise Hall 038. Please remember to have all appropriate handwritten signatures and attach the job description. Please return your completed paper application to Office of Career Services before the deadline for the semester you are applying for.

Fall 2018: Friday, August 31 at 2 p.m.
Spring 2019: Friday, January 25 at 2 p.m.
Summer 2019: Friday, May 24 at 2 p.m.
Note: Applicants must have the application submitted with their Site Supervisors signature by the deadline.
- How the Course Works
The course operates on Blackboard. There is no in-class time, but students communicate regularly with the instructor. This is a course for academic credit, and tuition is charged for enrolling in the course. Additionally, students will need to submit all assignments to be successful. Students will receive a letter grade which will appear on their official transcript and calculate into their cumulative GPA.
Students must be able to complete the internship during the semester they are enrolled. Students must be able to complete the internship during the semester they are enrolled, retroactive credit is not granted. For summer internships the course starts in A session and ends in C session.
Timesheet/Required Hours: Students must complete 150 hours at their internship site to receive 3 credits. Students must submit a signed Timesheet to their instructor during the course.
Assignments: Student complete reflective journals submitted on Blackboard.
Evaluations: A mid and end of the semester evaluation is completed by the internship Site Supervisor, then turned in to the Instructor. The student also reviews and sign the evaluation.
Research Paper/Project: Student completes a research paper/project related to their internship experience and major. Prior to submitting the research paper, the student submits a research topic for instructor approval.

- How to Obtain an Internship
School of Business Office of Career Services can provide career guidance on how to obtain an internship related to their major. Students are encouraged to use HireMason and attend networking events to meet with prospective employers.
- How to Register on PatriotWeb
Student receives Departmental Approval from the Office of Career Services by submitting an application to be approved.
Career Services reviews the application for approval/denial.
- If approved, student receives a “Mason Request Override” email from ‘email@example.com’ with the CRN to register in Patriot Web.
- If denied, student receives an email through their MasonLive account from Career Services.
- How to Submit your Application
First, School of Business undergraduate students must obtain an internship relevant to their academics and major with a company.
Second, School of Business undergraduate students must complete the Internship for Academic Credit Student Application online.
Once submitted, the application is sent as a link to your site supervisor indicated on your form. The application must be reviewed and signed by the site supervisor. The application is not complete until e-signed by you and your site supervisor. The sender of the email is ‘firstname.lastname@example.org’ with the subject line ‘Please complete the internship agreement.’
Your application is NOT complete until you and your site supervisor e-sign the application.
Note: Applicants without all necessary signatures will not be accepted.
- I Did Not Receive the CRN
The "Mason Request Override" email may go to your spam or junk. If you submitted an application and do not receive the email 24 hours before the deadline to apply, immediately contact Career Services at 703-993-2140.
Note: If a student submits an application and is denied, they will be notified by Career Services through their MasonLive email account.
