Accounting Advisory Council
To increase the community's participation in the development of future accounting professionals, the Accounting Area in the School of Business at George Mason University maintains a strong tradition of building partnerships through the Accounting Advisory Council. The council's mission is to advise and assist the Accounting Area in the achievement of the Area’s mission to prepare our graduates to be successful contributors to an increasingly global accounting profession.
Comprised of leaders in the accounting community, the Accounting Advisory Council provides strategic guidance to the Accounting Area as the Area seeks to align its undergraduate and masters programs to the needs of the accounting profession.
The Accounting Advisory Council members represent a variety of accounting firms, corporations, and government entities.
Arthur J. Dykes
Partner, Private Client Servies
Arthur has over 30 years of general public accounting experience, is a member of the firm’s tax practice, and is the partner in charge of the firm’s private client practice. He specializes in sophisticated tax planning and wealth planning for very high net worth individuals, their families and closely held businesses.
Arthur spent 8 years with Ernst & Young and 14 years as a partner in his own CPA firm before joining McGladrey. Arthur is responsible for all tax services to your organization, including directing efforts, scrutinizing conclusions and recommendations for validity, and meeting with management on all issues. Arthur has real world business experience, and as an entrepreneur, owned and operated a national fast food chain, was a founder and operator of a national retail franchisor, and developed four real estate commercial properties. As your tax partner, Arthur is responsible for ensuring “peace of mind” for all tax compliance requirements, and bringing fresh and creative tax planning ideas to you. His experience includes improving cash flow, minimizing income taxes, recommending cost reduction strategies, business succession planning, structuring alternative financing methods, developing wealth strategies that meet the needs of the high net worth, and complex family structures .
Arthur was chosen in the Top 50 Washingtonian Magazine 1995 and 2012 Annual Survey of Best CPAs in the Washington, DC area and most recently, in July 2012, recognized as one of Maryland’s Top 50 CPA’s by SmartCEO magazine.
Charles F. Helme III

Charles (Chip) Helme is the managing principal of Thompson Greenspon, a Fairfax CPA firm serving business and individuals since 1956.
Chip provides audit, tax and advisory services to a diverse range of clients, including construction contractors, nonprofit organizations and professional service firms. He performs audits, reviews and compilations of financial statements, operational reviews, accounting services and tax planning and preparation services. He also has a base of individuals for whom he offers tax advice, and multi-state and Federal tax preparation.
Chip is committed to the business community and has been a guest speaker for several Northern Virginia Chambers of Commerce to guide local businesses on improving their cash flow. Since 2009, he has been named a “Super CPA” by the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants and Virginia Business Magazine in the category of Government/Nonprofit.
Chip is an alumnus of George Mason University, past Chair of the George Mason University Accounting Advisory Council and past Treasurer of the Alumni Association.
Jenny E. Herrera

Jenny has over 25 years of accounting and audit experience with focus on exempt organizations. In addition to overseeing audits, Jenny provides a wide variety of consulting and management advisory services to not-for-profit and government contract clients. Services provided include internal and operational controls, management structure, business process and procedures, unrelated business income tax, compliance with government regulations under the Office of Management and Budget.
Jenny is a frequent speaker on a variety of topics specifically related to the issues and concerns facing exempt organizations; including auditing, fraud, compliance and other issues.
Jenny is a licensed Certified Public Accountant and Chartered Global Management Accountant. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the Greater Washington Society of Certified Public Accountants (GWSCPA) and the Virginia Society of CPAs.
Jenny received her Bachelor degree in accounting in Bolivia, and began her professional career in South America with one of the large international public accounting firms. After moving to the United States, Jenny received a BS in accounting from George Mason University.

Christine is a Director in the Global Employer Services practice at Deloitte Tax, with a focus on Global Mobility HR and Mobility Transformation. She specializes in helping clients to better integrate the global mobility function with talent management to align with organizational business and talent objectives.
Christine’s experience includes assisting clients with the design, implementation and execution of global policies within HR. She has advised a variety of companies in different industries to streamline their expatriate administration through updating processes and procedures.
Christine has over 25 years of experience in professional services serving in the tax, learning & development and mobility space. Christine is a CPA, a Global Professional in Human Resources (GPHR®) and a Global Mobility Specialist-Talent (GMS-T®).
CohnReznick Group, PC
Renee Mathews, CPA, is a partner in CohnReznick’s Bethesda office with more than 18 years of experience in accounting, tax, and financial management. She provides audit services for various organizations in the real estate, mortgage lending, and not-for-profit industries. Renee is responsible for all aspects of audit and management advisory service engagements, including engagement planning and coordinating efforts between employees at CohnReznick and clients’ finance and management personnel. She has technical and practical knowledge of GAAP, GAAS, and GAGAS.
Renee’s clients include nursing homes; associations; private schools; performing arts groups; international
not-for-profits; HUD lenders; DUS lenders; tax credit investment funds; and owners of hotels, condominiums (new construction and conversion), and multifamily residential properties (affordable and market rate). In addition to her client responsibilities, Renee has participated and lead Firm leadership training initiatives, developed staff training approaches, and assisted in the development of the Firm’s standard audit approach.

William (Bill) Ogletree, Chief Financial Officer of Three Wire Systems, leads our Business Support Team, including Finance, Accounting, Human Resources, Contracts and Administration. Bill was previously employed by Westat Corporation, CSS/Dynamac Corporation for 19+ years. During his career with CSS/Dynamac, he served in various executive capacities, including Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer,, Treasurer, Corporate Secretary, Shareholder and Board Member. Under Ogletree’s tenure, Dynamac experienced a financial turnaround leading to a financially strong and sustaining organization and sale to Consolidated Safety. Bill participates in numerous business organizations in the government contracting community including Association for Corporate Growth, Financial Executive Institute, Northern Virginia Technology Council, , and he is a member of the Virginia Society of CPAs.
Ogletree holds a BS degree in accounting from George Mason University, a MBA from Marymount University, and he is a CPA in the state of Virginia. He has served on the Fairfax County Business Advisory Council working with Fairfax County schools to develop job opportunities for people with disabilities. He currently serves on the Board of Special Olympics in Northern Virginia and is a past Chairman of Special Olympics in Northern Virginia, which serves over 1,000 athletes and over 600 volunteers. He resides in Fairfax Station, Virginia with Linda, his wife of 35 years, and has three adult children and two golden retrievers. He enjoys sports and playing golf with family and friends.
As a Senior Manager in Aronson’s Tax Services Group, Grant provides comprehensive tax services to government contractors and real estate companies in which he has more than 11 years of public accounting experience. Grant’s areas of specialization include tax planning for pass-through entities such as Limited Liability Companies, partnerships and S Corporations, as well as handling of tangible property regulations matters and state sales and use tax issues.
Grant earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in accounting from The College of William & Mary, and is a member of the Northern Chapter of the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants. Active in his community, Grant serves as Treasurer on the board of directors of Hope Connections for Cancer Support, a nonprofit organization that supports cancer patients and their caregivers.

Allison Ritman is the director of the Federal Aviation Administration’s Office of Financial Reporting and Accountability. She is the executive responsible for FAA’s financial reporting, financial policy, internal controls, and financial audit liaison functions. FAA’s financial statements include approximately $13 billion of property and equipment, $15 billion of investments, and $27 billion in budgetary resources. Ritman is also responsible for managing the federal travel charge card program for over 30,000 travelers.
Under Ritman’s leadership, the FAA has been recognized 11 times with the Certificate of Excellence in Accountability Reporting (CEAR), for excellence in federal financial and performance reporting. Before joining FAA in 2003, Ritman was at PricewaterhouseCoopers for 17 years, where she managed financial statement audits and provided business advisory services to a variety of federal agencies including several banking regulatory entities.
Ritman is a Certified Public Accountant, Certified Government Financial Manager, and a Chartered Global Management Accountant. Her professional memberships include the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants, and the Association of Government Accountants. She is a member of George Mason University’s Accounting Advisory Council, and has served as Council chair twice--for the 2014-2015 and 2001-2002 academic years.

Ed Ryan is a cofounder and managing partner at RyanSharkey, one of the leading accounting and consulting firms in the Washington region. Ed works closely with his leadership team to set the firm’s strategic direction, vision and culture.
Leveraging more than 20 years of experience in public accounting, including at two global firms, Ed brings seasoned expertise to auditing, reviewing and advising public and private companies, ranging from small start-ups to large corporations. Ed's deep industry knowledge allows him to provide proactive advice to executives on complex financial transactions, mergers and acquisitions, business combinations and other sophisticated accounting issues.
Ed is passionate about client service and developing relationships so he fully understands his clients’ needs – including the needs they’ve yet to anticipate. Sarah Shuey is an audit senior manager at KPMG, LLP. She joined the firm in 2003 after graduating with a BS in accounting from George Mason University in December 2002. Sarah serves her clients as an audit manager and as a technical resource for several advisory projects. In addition to her client service at KPMG, LLP, Sarah is actively involved in campus recruiting, training development, and instructing at the national and local levels. Sarah is a performance manager and mentor to employees within the firm and a mentor to professionals outside of the firm.
In addition to her role on George Masons’ Accounting Advisory Council, Sarah is a former adjunct professor for George Mason’s accounting program and a member of several professional organizations.
Parvin J. Van Enger

Parvin Van Enger has over 15 years of experience serving clients in the area of state and local tax including sales & use, gross receipts, income / franchise, and personal property tax. Her diverse client base includes renewable energy, retail, wholesale, service based, government contracting, not-for-profit, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, software, technology, and telecommunications industries.
Parvin has extensive experience in multistate and local tax audit defense, voluntary disclosure agreements, nexus determination, apportionment planning, mergers and acquisitions, refund claims, and credits and incentives. She has managed large, complex sales & use and personal property tax compliance engagements.
Parvin is also experienced in identifying and quantifying tax savings opportunities and potential exposure in all areas of state and local taxation.
Before joining Andersen Tax, Parvin worked in the multistate tax practice of Deloitte and a top 20 national accounting and tax firm.

As a partner of the firm, Rick provides audits, reviews and compilations of financial statements for construction contractors and real estate entities. Rick also provides comprehensive tax services to such organizations and their owners.
Rick is a graduate of George Mason University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in business administration. Now as a practicing CPA, he is involved in many organizations such as the American Institute of Certified Public Accounts, The Northern Virginia Building Industry Association and The Associated General Contractors of America. In 1989, after 10 years of experience in the industry, Rick began his time as controller and CFO at Virginia Housing Corporation. While with Virginia House Corporation, he was one of the founders and owners of Lake Wilderness Quality Homes, Inc. and Old Dominion Land Development, Inc., building homes for first-time homeowners and developing land into residential building lots.
Over the years, he has advised several entities in tax strategies including cost segregation studies which resulted in reduced income tax burden and increased cash flow. In addition, Rich has worked closely with contractors to help them obtain bonding for construction jobs and match them with bonding agents.
Rick is also the Chair-Elect for the Virginia Society of CPA’s Educational Foundation which provides scholarships and grants to students in Virginia colleges studying accounting.
