Melissa Martin previously served as an assistant professor of marketing at George Mason University where she won a university teaching excellence award.

She originally worked in information technology, including positions in software development, consulting, and sales/marketing. After earning her PhD she began teaching marketing courses and specialized in technology-related marketing.
Currently, Martin consults in marketing, especially internet-related marketing issues. She is also the Friday news blogger for the Pearson Higher Education "Inside Marketing" blog.
