Burki is the owner/principal of Altvia Consulting, LLC. She has a vast international experience which ranges from both for profit to non-profit world covering a span of 20 years. Burki began her career with Citigroup abroad in the emerging markets as a banker and then worked in New York and Ft. Lauderdale, respectively, as vice president of employee development, e-learning, knowledge management and training. In 2003, she joined National City Bank in Cleveland as the senior vice president, Head of Retail Performance and Development responsible for over 20,000 employees. Later, she joined Ameriprise Financial Services in Minneapolis as the chief learning and OD officer and HR strategist.
Most recently, Burki was the head of Human Resources, vice president for Biomedical Services at the American Red Cross based in Washington, D.C., providing support to over 20,000 employees and managing a staff of 225 people with an annual budget ranging from US$51 to 23 million. In this function, she had responsibility for talent acquisition, labor relations, employee relations, talent management, executive development, total rewards (compensation and benefits), HR policies and procedures, change management and balance scorecard.
As a result of her business operations experience she has a keen understanding of business challenges and needs and has a proven track record of increasing shareholder value by aligning the HR function with business needs and goals.

Burki is multilingual. She has also published and presented at conferences on topics related to human capital issues and has taught at Harvard University as a Teaching Fellow. She is an Adjunct Professor of organizational design and management consulting at George Mason University. Burki was also one of the 100 ‘thought leaders’ at the SHRM leadership retreat in Arizona in 2008.
