Profile:

Steve Pilloff is a term assistant professor of finance at the School of Business at George Mason University. He previously taught at Hood College and the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland. Pilloff has worked as a senior economist with the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System. He has also worked for Freddie Mac, the office of Thrift Supervision, and Ernst & Young.

Pilloff's work has been published in various journals including Journal of Bankiing and Finances, Journal of Competition Law and Economics, Multinational Finance Journal, Review of Industrial Organization, and Journal of Financial Services Research.

Research and Awards:

Was the recipient of the George Mason University Provost Scholar Award for being named favorite professor at Mason in 2017.

Honored in 2017 from George Mason University Life in a fall 2015 Beacon Survey for being named as a "person on campus who has helped them [a student] the most in their college success".

Nominated for the George Mason University Career Services Career Connection Faculty Award which celebrates Mason faculty and staff who have made a positive impact on students' career goals, employment plans or graduate school preparation in 2017. 

Honored by Mason’s University Life with a University Service Award for being a person on campus who has helped a student the most in their college success in the Fall 2015 Beacon Survey in 2016.

Nominated for the Career Connection Faculty Award from George Mason University Career Services. This award celebrates Mason faculty and staff who have made a positive impact on students' career goals, employment plans or graduate school preparation.

Named by a student as a "person on campus who has helped them the most in their college success" on the Fall 2014 Beacon survey conducted by George Mason University Life in 2015.

Received a Service Award for outstanding service to the School of Business, the University, and the profession, from the School of Business in 2014. 

Was also nominated for a Service Award from Mason Students as Scholars, that is given to faculty members who have had a positive impact on current and former Mason students and their subsequent success and who have demonstrated support and engagement of undergraduate scholarship at Mason in 2014.

Received the Teaching Award given annually to one faculty member in George Mason’s School of Business who has made significant contributions to teaching, pedagogical development, and assurance of learning. Recipient determined by a committee of teaching experts and past award winners. 

Was one of 20 finalists (from 125 nominated faculty members) for a University Service Award from George Mason University Career Services for faculty who have made a positive impact on students' career goals, employment plans, or graduate school preparation in 2014.


Was nominated for the Teaching Excellence Award from George Mason University Center for Teaching Excellence in 2012.

Received the “Gold Communicator Award” for The Finance Minute, which was produced with GMU-TV at the Communicator Awards in 2012. This is the highest award ever received by GMU-TV.  The video can be seen at http://vimeo.com/36428406.
