Mahesh P. Joshi is the director of Research & Practice for Mason's Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, as well as an associate professor of Global Strategy and Entrepreneurship at the School of Business, George Mason University. He received his PhD in strategic management and international business from Temple University.
Joshi has a wide variety of teaching interests. These include innovation and entrepreneurship, strategic management, global strategies, managing change, business model analysis, cross-cultural management, multidisciplinary capstone courses, and industry analysis, innovations and technology.
Joshi's research interests include process innovativeness, adoption of new technology, and strategic change. He studies links between new technologies and the phenomenon of corporate entrepreneurship and innovations. His research includes topics such as business continuity planning, corporate governance, global strategy, deregulation and strategy, implementation of strategy by middle managers and strategy and public sector. Joshi has published articles in many journals and the non-exhaustive list includes Strategic Management Journal, Decision Sciences Journal, Journal of Operations Management, IEEE-Transaction of Engineering Management, Long Range Planning, Corporate Governance, Corporate Reputation Review, International Journal of Production Research, Service Industries Journal, International Journal of Operations & Production Management, Journal of Management Education and Management Decision.
For more than five times he has been awarded “School of Business Service Award” to reflect his ability to connect with the local business community. Additionally, students have recognized him with the "Teacher of the Year" & “Commitment to Academic Excellence” awards. He has also won several “Best Paper Awards” for his research papers presented in a variety of academic conferences.
Besides teaching and researching, Joshi provides consulting to public sector, private sector and not‐for-profit organizations and has been a founding member of an Internet based business. His consulting assignments have been focused on formulation and implementation of global strategy, opportunity recognition and feasibility studies for entrepreneurial firms, international market entry decisions, competitive intelligence analysis, impact of new technology on established firms, global strategic alliances, practice of corporate entrepreneurship and management of start-up ventures. He is also an advisor to several startup firms in the DC metro area. When he finds spare time, he enjoys performing and acting opportunities.
Had his research featured in the NVTC Voice of Technology Fall 2015 issue. Joshi’s research focused on Government Contracting Firms (GovCon) in the Washington, D.C. area and innovation and corporate entrepreneurship.
Honored as an invited speaker at iSEED, Indian School of Entrepreneurship in Gurugram India in 2016 on the topic of of What is a Good Business Model.
Honored as one of the organizers and a moderator of the Pan-Indian Institute of Technology (Pan-IIT) Business Plan Competition held in Providence, RI. Sponsored by the Pan-IIT Alumni Association in 2016, the competition received more than 65 entries from around the world.
Presented the paper titled, “Measuring Disruptive Innovation from the Lens of Dynamic Capabilities: A Study of the Indian Auto Sector” at the Northeastern Association of Business, Economics and Technology (NABET) Annual Conference in State College, PA in October in 2015 (with coauthor Deepak Pandit).
Received a Faculty Teaching Award from students attending an executive training program organized by the National Industries for the Blind (NIB) in 2015.
Had the presentation titled “Strategic Fit: A Case Study in U.S. Federal Government Setting,” published in the proceedings from the Eastern Academy of Management International Division in 2015 (with coauthors Anil Patel).
Published an article titled, “Antecedents of Innovativeness in Technology-Based Services (TBS): Peering into the Black Box of Entrepreneurial Orientation,” (coauthored with Sid Das and Nacef Mouri) in Decision Sciences in 2015.
Presented the paper titled, “Adoption of New Innovations: A Focus on Demand Heterogeneity” at the Strategic Management Society in Atlanta, Georgia in 2013 (with Matthew Theeke).
Had the presentation titled “Technology Orientation and Product Innovativeness in Technology Services Firms” published in the proceedings from the American Marketing Association (AMA) Marketing Educators' Conference in 2012. The paper also won “Best Paper Award” at the conference (with coauthors Sid Das and Nacef Mouri).
Had the presentation titled “Proactiveness and Innovativeness in Service Firms: Too Much of a Good Thing?” published in the proceedings from the AMA Summer Marketing Educators' Conference in 2013 (with coauthors Sid Das and Nacef Mouri).
Received an award from the Association of Mergers and Acquisition Alliance (AM&AA) in 2013 for the Topic: Managing Innovativeness to Create Value for Merger Targets.
