Richard J. Klimoski holds a dual appointment as both professor of psychology and professor of management at George Mason University. He served as dean of the School of Business from 2002 to 2009 after serving as interim dean since 2001.

During his tenure as dean, the School of Business (School of Business) has launched strategic initiatives that have enhanced School of Business’s worldwide reputation, visibility and the quality of program offerings. These initiatives have spurred the School of Business’s rise in the U.S. News & World Report’s "Best Business Schools" rankings, where School of Business currently ranks among the top 15 percent of AACSB-accredited business programs in the world.

Klimoski’s leadership also guided School of Business to a successful reaffirmation of its accreditation by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) International in 2005.

Central to the School of Business’s forward progression was Klimoski’s leadership in attracting high quality teacher/scholars and successfully recruiting twenty-four new faculty members from 2003-05. This forty percent increase in faculty at School of Business has markedly enhanced student learning, curriculum offerings, and the research productivity of the school.

Outreach to the greater Washington, D.C., area's business community was also a hallmark of Klimoski’s leadership. An expanded advisory board comprised of regional business leaders works closely with the dean in fostering these business connections and partnerships.

Klimoski serves on the board of the Century Club, and of the Stevie Awards, an awards program for emerging entrepreneurs. He is also active with a wide range of regional organizations, including the Washington Board of Trade, Northern Virginia Technology Council, Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce, and Potomac Officers Club.

Prior to coming to George Mason, Klimoski was on the faculty of the Ohio State University for twenty-five years, where he is a Professor Emeritus. He came to George Mason University in 1995 to lead and strengthen the industrial organizational psychology graduate program. In 2001, it became the university’s highest ranked program, at 8th in the nation, according to the U.S. News & World Report’s "Best Graduate Schools" rankings edition.

Klimoski received his PhD in psychology and management from Purdue University in 1970. His teaching and research interests center on strengthening the human side of work organizations, especially through effective management of teams. He has co-authored several books, most recently Research Methods in Human Resource Management (1992), The Nature of Organizational Leadership (2002), and Emotions in Work Organizations (2002).

Klimoski is a fellow of several scientific societies including the Academy of Management, the American Psychological Society, the American Psychological Association, and the Society for Industrial/Organizational Psychology (SIOP). He served as president of SIOP from 1991-92.
