Commercial Real Estate Intern at John Marshall Bank

John Marshall Bank is looking for a rising, college senior who is interested in pursuing a career in finance and banking with an emphasis in Commercial Real Estate.

This position will expose the intern to financial spreads and analysis for real estate clients; credit approval and memo review for loan presentations in conjunction with Commercial Bankers, all in an independent and objective manner. This intern will observe and begin to learn the process of overseeing the review of financial collateral and other related documentation used to evaluate commercial loan requests in order to approve or deny applications for credit. This position will also expose the intern to the required day to day maintenance and customer service required by these loans post-closing.

In This Role You Will

  • Complete financial spreads and analyze historical and projected financial statements, tax returns and other pertinent financial information to determine overall financial performance, condition and creditworthiness of borrowers and other obligors
  • Review credit files for documentation and exceptions
  • Gain exposure to the writing of credit recommendations and verbal presentations of information in the loan process
  • Research and compile data related to borrower, project, industry or geographic Market
  • Assist in ordering appraisals for collateral properties and reviewing/analyzing that report.
  • Assist in processing construction draws and collecting pertinent information and documentation related to those draws and projects.
  • Write memos outlining the status of current projects or loans including but not limited to short term extensions of existing credit lines and loans.
  • Present a professional appearance and attitude at all times; models professional and ethical behavior and conducts relationships in a manner that will enhance the overall image of the bank.

Qualifications

Required

  • Currently pursuing Bachelor’s Degree in Finance and/or Accounting.
  • Strong combination of interpersonal communication skills (including written and verbal), as well as analytical and decision making skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suites: Word, Excel, PowerPoint

Preferred

  • Previous exposure to Finance, Accounting, Banking, or Real Estate from an Internship, Club or Organization.
  • Ability to learn internal bank systems and additional software programs.
  • An interest in growing a career in commercial, business banking
