Meet Mason MBA Program Student Shalini Nambiar
Shalini Nambiar joined the Mason MBA program after graduating with a bachelors of commerce from Delhi University in India. Shalini currently works as a teaching assistant and is expecting to graduate from the Mason MBA program in spring 2018.
We spoke with Shalini about her decision to pursue an MBA degree, and she shared her reasons with us below.
Why did you choose to get your MBA degree?
An MBA provides deeper understanding of the various aspects of a business, which you don’t get exposure to in the normal course of your job. This knowledge then puts you in a position to visualize the bigger picture, making you more effective and innovative and giving you a competitive advantage in the job market.
What were some of the reasons you chose Mason for your MBA degree?
Apart from the excellent reputation of the school, its emphasis on diversity and the benefits to be gained from being so close to D.C. made me chose Mason.
What has been the most rewarding experience so far?
The most rewarding experience has been the style of teaching. The case studies and projects assigned help you see and understand the real-world applications instead of just learning arbitrary concepts.
In what areas are you hoping the MBA program will impact you from a skills or knowledge perspective?
I’m hoping to enhance soft skills such as networking and people management in addition to gaining knowledge about business analytics—a field I’m new to.
What does the future hold for you when you graduate?
As an accounting and MIS professional, I’ve always been fascinated with data and numbers and I’m hoping to build on it and enter the ever-expanding and dynamic field of business analytics and intelligence.
What would you say to people looking to get an MBA degree?
I would say that it is an intense program that is worth the effort it demands.
