Career Moves: Real Estate Alumni Joins Developer Rooney Properties
Alumni Chris Oursler (Masters in Real Estate Development ’15) recently joined real estate development firm Rooney Properties as a senior associate. Arlington-based Rooney Properties is a family office that invests in commercial real estate throughout the Washington, D.C. metro region. Rooney Properties owns and develops multi-family residential, office, and mixed-use properties.
Among the projects Chris will be handling is 1831 Michael Faraday Drive, a 3.85-acre site located on the Dulles Toll Road, 0.25 miles from the Wiehle-Reston East Metro Station. When Rooney Properties acquired the site, it was zoned industrial and improved with an occupied one-story, 37,500-square-foot office building. Rooney has since rezoned the property for 248,000 square feet of multi-family units, 10,000 square feet of retail space, and 13 townhomes. Construction on the mixed-use project is anticipated to begin in the second half of 2018. Rooney is also under contract on the adjacent 2.85 acre parcel and is in the process of rezoning it for 166,000 square feet of multi-family density and an additional 13 townhomes. Once entitled, this site will be combined with 1831 Michael Faraday to create a 408-unit multi-family project in two buildings, with extensive open green space and outdoor amenities.
