Commonwealth Cyber Initiative (CCI) Launches in Virginia
The Commonwealth Cyber Initiative recently launched which is a network that engages institutions of higher education, industry, and government, along with non-governmental and economic development organizations to cyber-related research, education, and engagement.
The vision is to build an ecosystem of cyber-related research, education, and engagement that positions the Commonwealth as a world leader of cybersecurity.
The mission is to serve as an engine for research, innovation, and commercialization of next-generation cybersecurity technologies, and address the Commonwealth’s need for growth of advanced and professional degrees within the cyber workforce.

CCI is appropriated with a $20M per year budget. CCI will build on Virginia’s strong base of research excellence, its innovative and diverse higher education system, vibrant ecosystem of venture capital investment and high-growth firms, and unparalleled density of cybersecurity talent.
The CCI Hub is located in the Virginia Tech Research Center in Arlington, Virginia. The Commonwealth Cyber Initiative (CCI), a $25-million effort funded in the 2018-20 Virginia budget, calls on higher education institutions and industry to build an ecosystem of cyber-related research, education, and engagement.
