Jill Mitchell is a supporting faculty member in the accounting department of the School of Business. She is an Associate Professor of Accounting at Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) at Annandale. She is the co-author of College Accounting for John Wiley & Sons, with co-authors, Jerry Weygandt, Paul Kimmel, and Deanna Martin. She is the Past-President of the Washington, DC Chapter of the Accounting and Financial Women’s Alliance (AFWA), and she served on the Board of Directors of the Virginia Society of CPAs (VSCPA), where she also served on the Educators’ Symposium Task Force and the VSCPA Educational Foundation Scholarship Selection Committee. Jill is a 2019 recipient of the Outstanding Faculty Award, the Commonwealth’s highest honor for faculty at Virginia’s public and private colleges and universities. Presented by SCHEV, the award recognizes superior accomplishments in teaching, research and public service.
Jill began her career with Ernst & Young’s Business Risk Services practice in Miami, Florida. She is a Certified Internal Auditor and graduated from the University of Virginia’s McIntire School of Commerce with an M.S. in Accountancy. She is a graduate of the University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business and Honors Program where she earned a B.B.A. in Management Information Systems. She earned a graduate certificate in e-Learning Instructional Design from George Mason University, where she is currently pursuing an M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Instructional Design and Technology.
