George Mason University Center for Government Contracting Appoints Research Fellow
The Center for Government Contracting at George Mason University’s School of Business has appointed Eric Lofgren as a Research Fellow to conduct research, writing, and lead initiatives on business, policy, regulatory, and other issues in government contracting.
Lofgren is a researcher and podcaster specializing in government acquisition of major systems. He manages the daily blog Acquisition Talk and produces a podcast with the same name where he speaks with leading experts in the field. Before joining the Center for Government Contracting, Lofgren was the emergent ventures fellow at the Mercatus Center at Mason. Prior to that, he was a senior analyst at Technomics Inc., supporting cost estimates, policy development, and economic analyses for the Defense Department’s Cost Assessment and Program Evaluation office.
“Eric has unique perspectives on fostering innovation through contracting, defense pricing strategies, and other areas critical to the government contracting community,” said Center Director Jerry McGinn. “His blog, podcast, and prolific writing will be tremendous assets for the center’s research and outreach efforts.”
The Center for Government Contracting at George Mason University is a nexus for government, industry, and academia to address business, policy, and regulatory issues in the government contracting community. Activities to implement this vision focus on research, education and training, and collaboration.

Biography: Eric Lofgren
Eric Lofgren is a researcher and podcaster specializing in government acquisition of major systems. He has supported Defense Department programs including the F-35 fighter aircraft, GPS, and the Gerald Ford-class aircraft carrier, and has helped develop guidance for contractor business systems. Lofgren also manages the daily blog Acquisition Talk and produces a podcast with the same name where he speaks with leading experts in the field. Topics range from program deep-dives to contracting reform, and from cost accounting to military history.
Before joining the Center for Government Contracting at George Mason University, Lofgren was the Emergent Ventures Fellow at the Mercatus Center. Prior to that, he was a senior analyst at Technomics, Inc., supporting cost estimates, policy development, and economic analyses for the Defense Department's Cost Assessment and Program Evaluation office. He is an avid historian of military acquisition, and has won five Best Paper awards from the International Cost Estimating and Analysis Association. Lofgren earned his master’s in economics from George Mason University in 2015.
