On the afternoon of Tuesday, July 19, members of the School of Business Alumni Chapter, joined by Dean Ajay Vinzé, took time out of their busy schedules to give back to the local community. At the Food for Others warehouse in Fairfax, the group assembled hundreds of power packs of food for students facing food insecurity.

“Volunteering in the community is an important part of participating in the School of Business Alumni Chapter,” says Alumni Chapter President Pam Maple, MBA ’09. “Coming together as an organization in partnership with Food for Others is the kind of stewardship we hope to continue in the coming year.” Commitment to the community is a common trait among the chapter’s members, and opportunities like the one at Food for Others are what encouraged many of them to join the board in the first place.

While the alumni are doing the service for the benefit of the community, they are also growing as individuals. “I've learned resilience, patience, and the power of teamwork and coming together to achieve something,” says Director-at-Large Chaimaa Fekkak, BS Finance & Management ’13. Service has long been essential to what being a Patriot is all about. “It felt great participating in the Food for Others service event with my alumni chapter friends and our new Dean,” says Immediate Past President Scott Hine, BS Decision Science ‘85. “We helped others in need, we built stronger relationships with one another, and we represented the Mason alumni community in a positive and impactful manner.”

By coming together and rolling up their sleeves for a few hours in the warehouse, the School of Business Alumni Chapter assisted Food for Others in their mission, providing food to Fairfax County students in need.
