Biography

Chi-Hyon Lee is an associate professor of management at George Mason University's Costello College of Business. He received his doctorate in information technology strategy from Boston University. His academic background includes a BS in physics from the University of California, Irvine and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Southern California.

Lee's research interests include software ecosystem dynamics, alliances and partnerships, and network analytics and methods. Specifically, he seeks to understand how packaged software companies can create and sustain competitive advantage given complementarities, network effects, and system-based competition. He works with leading software product, service, and research companies. He also has prior professional experience as a systems analyst, software engineer, and systems programmer.

Lee’s research has appeared in the Academy of Management Journal, California Management Review, and Academy of Management Proceedings.

  • Published an article titled, “Examining Alliance Portfolios beyond the Dyads: The Relevance of Redundancy and Nonuniformity Across and Between Partners” (coauthored with Manuela Hoehn-Weiss and Samina Karim) in Organization Science in 2017.
  • Published an article titled, “Grouping Interdependent Tasks: Using Spectral Graph Partitioning to Study Complex Systems” (coauthored with Manuela Hoehn-Weiss and Samina Karim) in the Strategic Management Journal in 2016.
  • Received a Teaching Award from George Mason University in 2013.
  • Presented the paper titled “Compete or Forbear? The Effects of Competitive Advantage, Complementarities and Multimarket Contact” (with Hun Lee and Masoud Yasai)at the Academy of Management BPS Division in San Antonio, Texas in 2011.
