The Women in Business Initiative Awards

Recognizing Impact, Innovation, and Inspiration for Women in Business

The Women in Business Initiative Award was created to recognize and honor women and women-owned businesses that are creating impact, innovation or inspiration.

This year there are four categories of awards (outlined below). These will be awarded at the WIBI’s annual fundraiser to be held on May 21, 2020, at the Country Club of Fairfax.

  1. Woman of the year
  2. Business of the year
  3. Ambassador of the year
  4. Student of the year

All nominees must have:

  • Created impact for women in business
  • Innovated for women in business
  • Inspired progress, a movement or action for women in business

Award nominations are open now through February 29, 2020. Nominate an ideal candidate today. You may self-nominate for the award.

WIBI Woman of the Year Requirements

Nominees must be female, have a minimum of 10 years of experience in their industry or career, and be affiliated with the George Mason School of Business (alumna, donor, board member, etc.). Current WIBI Board members are not eligible, but Emeritus are.

WIBI Business of the Year Requirements

In addition to the above requirements, nominated organizations must be woman-owned (51% or more) and affiliated with the George Mason School of Business (female owner must be an alumni, donor, board member, etc.). Current WIBI Board members are not eligible, but Emeritus are.

WIBI Ambassador of the Year Requirements

Nominees must be female, be affiliated with the George Mason School of Business (alumna, donor, board member, etc.). Current and Emeritus WIBI Board members ARE eligible.

WIBI Student of the Year Requirements

Nominees must be female, a current undergraduate student in the School of Business with a GPA of 3.5 or higher.

To submit a nomination, please complete the below form by February 29, 2020.

The WIBI Award Committee will narrow submissions to three finalists in each category. Finalists will be contacted via email and asked to submit a personal video (2-5 minutes long) on why they submitted a nomination and how their work supporting women in business has impacted them personally. Videos will be hosted on a private site and voted on by all WIBI board members. The winners will be notified 30 days before the Tour of Wine event. Their names will not be shared publicly until the event.
