What should I do if the class I want is full?
If a class is closed, register for another open section or join the waitlist. Faculty cannot issue overrides. If it’s your final class in your last semester, review the Force Add Policy.
Why am I getting a prerequisite error?
You may be missing a required course or credit threshold. You must meet all prerequisites before the semester begins or you will be dropped. If you’ve met the prerequisites but still get an error, email masonbus@gmu.edu.
Common Prerequisites:
- ACCT 303 / FNAN 303: MATH 108, ACCT 203, BUS 210 + 30 earned credits
- BUS 303: BUS 103 + 30 earned credits
- BUS 310: BUS 210
- MGMT/MKTG/MIS/BULE 303: 30 earned credits
- ENGH 302: ENGH 100/101 + Literature
Can I take a prerequisite and its required course at the same time?
No. Prerequisites must be completed first. They are faculty-approved and listed in the catalog.
I took the prerequisite at another school—why am I getting an error?

What does “repeat hours exceeded” mean?
You’re attempting a course for the third time. Meet with an advisor before registering. Learn more under the Termination from Major policy.
Why can’t I register for BUS 498?
BUS 498 is for graduating seniors with 90 graded credits and a C or higher in all required 303-level courses. If you don’t meet the credit requirement, wait for final grades or join the waitlist.
Can I get a force-add if I need a class to graduate?
Join the waitlist first. If the course remains closed and you’ve filed your intent to graduate, email busreqst@gmu.edu for a force-add review. Approvals are not guaranteed. Learn more under the Force-Add policy.
What does “View Linked” mean when registering?
Some lectures require a recitation. You must register for both at the same time. Follow these steps.
Why can’t I register for ENGH 302?
Freshmen are not eligible. If you’re blocked due to prerequisites or the three-attempt policy, contact Courtney Adams Wooten at cwooten3@gmu.edu.
What grades do I need for Costello College of Business courses?
Most Costello College of Business courses require a C or higher. Some may require a B-. A C- or lower will not count and must be repeated.
Why am I getting a departmental approval message for BUS 103 or BUS 100?
You may be trying to register for a section reserved for a Learning Community. Choose a different section.
