Course Description

Covers technical concepts, and managerial and policy topics in information and cyber security. Lectures, reading, presentations, exercises, and examinations ensure that students have sufficient technical awareness and managerial competence related to information security and assurance. Examines the nature of threats and vulnerabilities, cryptography, software vulnerabilities, managing risk, and security controls. Offered by Costello College of Business.


Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to 

  • Articulate the role of cyber and information security. 
  • Explain the concepts, principles, and best practices in managing information security. 
  • Identify and analyze the common security threats and threat resources. 
  • Describe the strengths, weaknesses, and limitations of information security measures. 
  • Design information security policies and procedures 
  • Evaluate information security policies and procedures against regulations and laws. 
  • Utilize cryptography to harden security. 
  • Identify the common vulnerabilities in areas, such as storage, database, network, operating system, software applications, and mobile devices. 

MIS (Management Information Systems) Learning Goals

  • Apply knowledge of information technology, operations, and business functions to assess, design and improve business processes. 
  • Effectively manage projects, including information technology projects. 
  • Understand the overall systems development life cycle and be able to recommend IT solutions.

Grading Policy

All assignments are closed at the listed due date and will not be accepted late. 
Closed books/notes for all quizzes and exams. 
No curving will be applied.

Assignments 

  • All assignments are closed at the listed due date and will not be accepted late. 
  • Emails regarding grades will be ignored, except when there is an error in the grade. 
  • Quizzes and Exams are closed book/notes. 
    • Canvas server will not allow you to take the quiz/exam after the deadline. 
  • You are only allowed to take the quizzes/exams one time.  
    • You may not communicate the questions/answers with others. 
  • For homework assignments, you are allowed unlimited submissions before the deadlines. 
  • For the Project, you are only allowed one submission.
