Course Description

This five-day intensive workshop provides participants with a practical introduction to unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technology through the construction, configuration, programming, and flight testing of a quadcopter.

Participants progress from fundamental UAV concepts and electronics through sensors, flight-control systems, power, radio communications, software configuration, troubleshooting, and flight operations.

The workshop emphasizes hands-on learning and systems thinking, allowing participants to understand not only how individual drone components work, but also how those components interact as an integrated autonomous system.

The final day culminates in a structured flight-testing exercise and technical presentation in which teams demonstrate their completed UAV and connect its capabilities to potential government and public-sector applications.

Course Objectives/Key Competencies

Final Course Outcome:

By the end of the 30-hour workshop, participants will have moved through the complete UAV development cycle:

Understand → Design → Assemble → Integrate → Configure → Test → Fly → Evaluate

Participants leave with both a practical understanding of how a modern multirotor UAV operates and an appreciation of how UAV systems can be adapted to real-world

government and public-sector missions.

Key Competencies: Critical technology advancement: Resource management; Strategic readiness; Critical thinking:
