Course Description
The Internship for Credit Course is a three-credit School of Business Major Elective* course designed to give students the opportunity to gain practical, professional experience in conjunction with their academic development.
Required Online Materials
There is no designated textbook for this course. Instead, you will have articles to read, video clips to watch, and Canvas discussions to participate in. Instructor reserves the right to add, remove, or modify assignments at any time throughout this course. All material will be provided through Canvas. Therefore, you will be required to find required readings and assignments from our course webpage. Students are required to access LinkedIn Learning for journal assignments. All George Mason students have free access by logging in through the LinkedIn Learning (LiL) at Mason website.

Internship Journals
You will maintain six (6) journals of your work experiences: Five (5) journals will be written and one (1) journal will be spoken. You should make at least one entry per 2 weeks. Journal topics and the Voice Journal directions will be provided in Canvas under the Course Content tab. The purpose of the journal is to:
- Record a history of your work experience.
- Encourage reflection on your experience in relation to the business world.
- Integrate workplace recommendations from coursework and student interactions.
Evaluations
The evaluations within this course listed as follows:
- Mid-semester Self-Evaluation (completed by student)
- Employer Mid-term Evaluation (completed by employer)
- Final Self-Evaluation (completed by student)
- Employer Final Self-Evaluation (completed by employer)
Evaluation Process: Your supervisor will be asked to submit a written evaluation of your performance on 2 occasions: midsemester and at the end of the semester. After each evaluation, you are required to submit the appropriate self-evaluation form, elaborating on your internship experience. Both evaluation forms can be found under the Course Content tab.
Research Presentation
A research driven presentation on your topic of choice is required. The topic must be related to your major and to your internship assignment. You are expected to provide a topic to the instructor by the 4th week of your internship via the Assignments tab.
You will conduct independent reading on your chosen topic and create a 15-to-20-minute presentation summarizing what you have learned. Research should be conducted using primarily Scholarly Journals. Directions for the presentation can be found under the Course Content tab.
Annotated Bibliography
You will be required to submit an annotated bibliography for the sources you plan to use in your presentation. Information regarding the Annotated Bibliography will be found under the Assignments tab.
Student Time Log
You will be required to submit a student time log at the end of the semester. Failure to submit this document, signed by student and supervisor, may result in an incomplete (IN) for the class. The Student Time Log can be found under the Course Content tab.
Grading Policy
Unless otherwise stated, all assignments are due by 11:59 pm on the assigned due date, as found in the syllabus. All work should be posted to Canvas unless otherwise noted. Submissions posted within 24 hours after that time (i.e. 11:59 pm on the day after the due date) are subject to an immediate decrease in half the points of the assignment. After the 24-hour period, assignments will not be accepted.
Exceptions may be granted, but only on a case-by-case basis and, in general, that meet the following criteria: (1) I have been made aware of your situation/reason prior to the original due date and (2) you have received an acknowledgement from me prior to the original due date.
All grades are calculated at the end of the semester. No grade changes will be made unless there is an error on the instructor’s part. Do not email asking for a grade change.
