Mason Online Registration Policy
Students enrolled in the Mason Online degree pathway within the Costello College of Business can add and drop classes independently. They also have the option to receive assistance from an academic advisor in registering for reserved seats in some sections of online business courses.
Reserved seats are intended to increase the likelihood that MOL students can enroll in an online section of required business courses. Advisor-assisted registration is not guaranteed and depends on the following factors: MOL classification, a clear record with no registration holds, course availability, and the student's timely response to advisor outreach.
Questions related to Mason Online registration or reserved seats should be directed to cbonline@gmu.edu.
MOL students are responsible for regularly monitoring their George Mason email inbox for communications from cbonline@gmu.edu, as time-sensitive registration outreach is sent from this address. Though rare, we also suggest checking your spam/junk folders as well.
Important Notes:
- Reserved seats are for the spring and fall semesters only. There are no reserved seats for the summer due to limited course offerings, though students should still speak with their advisor prior to registration opening.
- Reserved seats are offered as courtesy, not a guarantee, to support the initial registration process for Mason Online students.
- Once a student is registered – either independently or through advisor assistance – any subsequent registration changes are the student’s responsibility. The Costello College of Business will not make post-registration changes on a student’s behalf.
- Advisors will not register a student for an online business course without prior communication and confirmation with the student.
- While we do reserve some seats, we are not able to guarantee specific sections/professors/etc. (i.e. We may be able to get you into MIS 303 DL1 but not MIS 303 DL2).
- Seat availability is dynamic and real-time and may change without notice based on enrollment activity and operational adjustments. (i.e. If you ask for a seat today in MIS 303 DL1 but we used the last saved seat yesterday, this means we are out of seats and you will need to add to the waitlist where applicable.)
- Reserved seats are limited and are for Costello College of Business courses only. We cannot reserve seats for non-business courses.
- Professor assignments may change at any time before the semester begins.
- Reserved seats that remain unclaimed will be returned to the general enrollment pool, inclusive of MOL students, two weeks before the semester begins. MOL students will have to register themselves for these at this point.
