Biography

Pallab Sanyal is a professor of information systems and operations management (ISOM) at the George Mason University Costello College of Business. He is also serving as the area chair of the Information Systems and Operations Management (ISOM) area. Prior to that, he served as the director of MBA programs for three years.   Sanyal’s primary research interest lies in understanding how the design of information systems influences the decisions people make thereby leading to certain individual, organizational, and societal outcomes. His research has been published in Management Science, MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research (ISR), the Journal of Management Information Systems (JMIS), Production and Operations Management (POM), and the Journal of Operations Management (JOM) among other outlets. Sanyal serves as an Associate Editor for Information Systems Research (ISR) and the Journal of the Association for Information Systems (JAIS). He has received the Best Reviewer and Best Associate Editor awards from ISR. He has also served on the organization committees of many conferences, including AMCIS and WITS.

Academic or Industry Experience

Sanyal teaches information technology management, and business analytics at the graduate level, and has taught data mining, networks and security, database design, and programming at the undergraduate level.  He has received many teaching awards, including a George Mason University Teaching Excellence Award in 2014. Prior to joining academia, Sanyal worked as an IT consultant for nine years—in India, Singapore, the UK, and the US. Some of the companies he has consulted for include Keppel Corporation in Singapore, Texas Instruments in the UK, and Target Corporation in the US. Sanyal is a member of the Association of Information Systems (AIS), the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS), and the Information Systems Society (ISS).
