Course Description

This course introduces students to an approach to decision making called design thinking that has been widely adopted by many companies to increase agility and responsiveness to fast moving digital technologies. The user experience has become central to technologically driven innovations that are creating new agile ways of delivering value. The course will elucidate the human-centered approaches for problem solving that focuses on the user experience as one of the central inputs into technological and organizational development. The course content is largely development from learned experiences in the deployment of innovation ecosystems for the development of fore vision and strategic planning at the C-levels of decision making. The course will focus on value creation via a deeper understanding of the end user experience as a source of value in the design of corporate strategies affecting ICT strategies Design thinking has gained in popularity both in industry and in governments in the last decade and is an important contrast to the more traditional linear and top-down view of problem solving. The course will study the concepts and applications of design thinking and will allow students to engage in the design thinking process in operational contexts. The course will be highly participatory involving all students as “designers” in the analysis and exploration of past case studies and development of new ones. The course will make use of experiential exercises to demonstrate how design thinking works at the practical levels.

Course Objectives
