University Catalog Description
Students will participate in a graduate level real estate case competition. The competition location will be determined each year but may include a local, regional or national competition destination. These competitions will require students to work as a team to determine the “highest and best use” or other competition objectives and parameters. Students may work with supporting disciplines, and professionals involved in development, architecture, engineering, contracting, finance and other disciplines to support the team in developing a successful solution. Additional costs such as travel expenses may be incurred.
Syllabus Course Description
The case competition is a real-world case study course where students from the MRED program compete against real estate students from other universities at regional or national real estate competitions. In this course, students take on the role of a consulting team to conduct a comprehensive analysis of a site and project.
Depending on the particular case competition, the students may need to create a comprehensive development proposal and strategic recommendations to maximize a property's potential. Case studies may require project teams to explore various options, employing a decision-tree approach to analyze each option thoroughly. Teams may also examine the SWOT analysis, urban design and management policies, future valuation streams, government regulation, and environmental impacts associated with each option.
Ultimately, the culmination of their analysis involves presenting their crafted proposals to a panel of industry experts. These experts provide valuable feedback and evaluation, making a competition a practical learning experience for the participating students.
Registration Restrictions: Enrollment is limited to MRED students. Interested students must apply to be accepted in the class.
