Shabinaaz Mahdi, BS Accounting ’12, discovered a passion for accounting at the Donald G. Costello College of Business at George Mason University. While in school, she was introduced to Baker Tilly, a leading advisory tax and assurance firm, where she has risen through the ranks to become partner.

As soon as Theresa Marimwa, MS Finance ’23, enrolled at the Donald G. Costello College of Business at George Mason University, she began getting noticed by recruiters. Furthermore, the coursework and faculty gave her the confidence to chase her dreams.

When Liz Lowery, BS Accounting ’18, first decided to enroll at George Mason University, she had yet to figure out which field she wanted to study. Coming from a small town, she was immediately drawn to the faster paced environment, academic opportunities, and access to Washington, D.C., that Mason offered. After a few classes, she found that her accounting course was the first time she was truly challenged in school, and that was the challenge she needed to stay engaged.

The scholarship luncheon, held each fall by the Donald G. Costello College of Business at George Mason University, brings together scholarship donors with the student recipients of those scholarships. On Tuesday, November 7, the latest group of donors and awardees gathered to build connections and share inspiration.

Shortly after transferring from Virginia Commonwealth University, Carrie He, BS Accounting ’20, MS Accounting ’21, felt the pull to change career paths and study accounting.

In August of 2023, Second Lieutenant Mark Cayanan, BS information systems and operations management (ISOM) ’22, graduated with honors from the United States Air Force’s (USAF) Undergraduate Cyber Warfare Training program.

The Donald G. Costello College of Business at George Mason University is committed to the active-duty military service members and veterans who come to Mason to enhance their education. We caught up with some military veterans who recently graduated from the Mason MBA program who shared the impact the MBA program has had on their career already, and how the Mason MBA could be beneficial for others.

Meeting a guest speaker in the classroom helped Bailey Wilson, MBA ’23, land a fulfilling job position in a new career path.

As a School of Business Distinguished Alumni Awardee in 2009 and a Prominent Patriot in 2018, Will Seippel, BS Economics and Accounting ’78, has maintained strong connections with George Mason University while growing his company, WorthPoint. Founded in 2007, WorthPoint is a site for both businesses and individuals to identify and research the value of antiques, fine art, and other collectibles.

An active board member and past chair of the Accounting Advisory Council at the George Mason University School of Business, A.J. Eschle, BS Accounting ’08, MBA ’12, works with the accounting area to prepare students for the accounting profession and to ensure that the school’s programs are where they need to be.
