Undergraduate Orientation Policy
The Costello College of Business requires all undergraduate students including newly admitted students, students changing their major to Business, and Mason Online (MOL) students to participate in Costello’s Undergraduate New Student Orientation.
Orientation ensures that all students understand the policies, procedures, and curriculum requirements of the College and are set up for academic success and engagement.
Orientation Completion Options
- Newly Admitted Mason Campus Students
Newly admitted freshmen and transfer students at the Mason campus can complete Orientation in one of the following ways (see New Student Orientation Pathways for details):- Completing the Pre-Orientation Process, which consists of online modules, a post-survey, and an individual meeting with an academic advisor.
- Attending a Virtual Advising & Registration (A&R) Session, completing the post-survey, and meeting in a small group with an academic advisor.
- Attending a Make-Up Orientation Session at the beginning of each semester.
- Completing Online Orientation Modules and post-survey after the orientation cycle for the term has ended.
- Mason Online (MOL) Campus Students
MOL students complete Orientation by (see MOL Orientation Pathway for details):- Completing Module 1 and 2 of Costello Mason Online Orientation designed for MOL students.
- Meeting with an academic advisor.
- Change of Major to Business Students
Students changing their major to Business complete Orientation by (see Change of Major Orientation Pathways for details:- Completing the Online Orientation Modules by the last day to drop classes in the major change effective term.
Change of Campus Students
If a student changes campuses and has already completed one of the Costello Orientation options listed above, they are not required to complete Orientation again for their new campus.
Communication
Students will receive multiple emails from the Costello College of Business with instructions on how to complete Orientation as they transition into the program.
Orientation Holds
If Orientation requirements are not met, a registration hold will be placed on the student’s account after the last day to drop a course. This hold will prevent schedule changes until Orientation is completed.
Once the required modules and post-survey are completed, the hold will be removed, and the student’s Costello Orientation requirement will be marked as fulfilled.
