On Loan from Cambridge: Grimsley Joins MRED Summer Faculty

On hiatus from her doctoral studies at Cambridge University (UK), Carolyn Kat” Grimsley will teach the poGrimlsey headshotpular Real Estate Entrepreneurship course this summer in Mason’s Masters in Real Estate Development (MRED) program. In addition to her impressive academic credentials, Grimsley brings a wealth of local, national and global real estate experience to the MRED classroom.

Beginning her career as a commercial real estate broker in the Washington, D.C. area, Grimsley focused primarily on multi-family investment sales. She then went “in-house” working to identify and procure properties nation-wide for a corporate concern.  She transitioned to a global focus accepting a role managing international property transactions for the US Department of State. Highlights of her work at the State Department include:

    • Acting as Senior Real estate Advisor for the London Embassy relocation project—the most expensive land transaction the DoS has completed to-date and one of the most complex
    • Creating the Overseas Building Operations’ Haiti Real Estate Master Plan subsequent to the 2010 earthquake
    • Negotiating a US/Laos property exchange that resulted in the resolution of a decades-long political dispute.

Grimsley holds a BS in finance from the University of Illinois, a MS in real estate development from the Johns Hopkins University, and expects to complete her doctorate at Cambridge in late 2014.
