Curriculum

Mason’s master’s in technology management focuses on strategic, ethical leadership and the interrelationships of technology and management in a global and networked technology marketplace. The program is 36 credits and includes a capstone project.

The program is built around four pillars:

  • Business Foundations
  • Global Perspectives/International Residency
  • IT Management
  • IT Strategy and Digital Transformation

Each pillar represents a stackable credential that integrates industry perspectives with coursework. You will have the opportunity to connect with other leaders in business and IT and be in the industry vanguard of new and emerging technologies.

Our faculty members incorporate daily opportunities to connect business theory with reality and advocate real-world learning. High-impact activities outside the classroom allow you to integrate theory with practice to advance your leadership and technology management abilities.

Global Residency

Developing a global mindset is a required skill for today’s technology leaders. This course provides a real-world, hands-on experience that focuses on technology trends and business opportunities, and challenges outside the U.S. market. You’ll learn to assess technology innovation and management from a global business perspective.

During the virtual Global Residency, you’ll study the culture, history, geography, and current business trends in a country outside the United States. You’ll participate in business meetings and interact with C-level executives, technology leaders, and government officials.

Capstone Project

You must complete the non-credit Capstone to graduate. You’ll work in teams, using your creativity, problem-solving, and diverse skills to develop a technology innovation that may address a solution to a business problem or other creative need.

The capstone builds on the program’s learning experiences to culminate in a final business plan. This business plan is presented to a capstone board consisting of a panel of technology executives who serve as judges. Many past capstone projects have resulted in funding and/or successful business opportunities. The capstone has become a hallmark of the program.
